OEM Planning

OEM Lead Time Planning Template

Use this planning sequence to identify the decisions that control an OEM hardware schedule. It is a buyer checklist, not a guaranteed delivery promise: product complexity, material, tooling, finish, packaging, quantity and approval speed can change every project.

1. RFQ and feasibility review

Provide drawings or samples, dimensions, material, finish, quantity, packaging and target date. Record open technical questions before requesting a firm schedule.

2. Sample development and approval

A typical sample may take about 5–7 days for a suitable project. Add time for drawing clarification, material sourcing, finish confirmation, shipping and buyer feedback. Bulk production should not be planned from an unapproved sample.

3. Bulk production window

Bulk production is commonly planned around 4–6 weeks after the product, order and packaging are confirmed. Track material readiness, fabrication, finishing, assembly, inspection and packing as separate milestones.

4. Packing and shipment preparation

Confirm artwork, labels, carton marks, packed quantity and shipping documents before the production finish date. Leave a decision point for inspection and release.

Use the OEM development process to structure approvals, review production lead-time factors, and coordinate dispatch through the shipping logistics guide.

Frequently asked questions

When does the production lead time start?

Confirm this in the order because material, deposit, sample and packaging approvals may all affect the agreed start point.

What most often delays a schedule?

Unresolved drawings, late sample feedback, custom material or finish, artwork changes and incomplete shipping instructions are common planning risks.
